SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – After suffering its first loss of the season earlier in the week to Marian University, the Spring Arbor University women's tennis returned to their winning ways with an 8-1 victory over Goshen College on Saturday.
The win moves the Cougars to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in the Crossroads League while the Maple Leafs dropped to 1-7 and 0-6 in conference play.
Spring Arbor took control of the match early earning a pair of 8-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Goshen managed to avoid the sweep by defeating SAU's No. 1 pair of Quincy Banini and Erin Hossack 8-5.
The Cougars dominated singles play, however, winning all six flights in straight sets. Banini prevailed over the Maple Leafs' top player on the No. 1 court 6-4, 6-2, while Hope Roelofs captured a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
Hossack and Mary-Kate McShane defeated their opponents by identical 6-0, 6-3 scores, and Katie Storrer came away with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Monika Wynne did not lose a game in her match, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Spring Arbor returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16 when it welcomes the defending Crossroads League champions Indiana Wesleyan University to town. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
