UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team continued its impressive start to the 2014 season, capturing its third straight win on Tuesday, defeating Taylor University 8-1.
The win improves SAU to 3-0 while the Trojans slipped to 0-4
The Cougars won five of the six singles matches. Senior Hope Roelofs, who was recently tabbed as the NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week, led the way claiming a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2. Classmate Erin Hossack won a thriller at the third position, earning a 6-2 win in the opening set, but falling 6-2 to in the second before rallying to come out on top 10-8 in the tie-breaker.
Also bringing home wins were senior Katie Storrer, sophomore Mary-Kate McShane and freshman Monika Wynne, all in straight sets.
Spring Arbor swept the doubles flights, highlighted by junior Quincy Banini and Hossack's victory at No. 1 over 2013 All-Crossroads League selection Katherine Marquez and her partner Kelsey Chow. Roelofs and Storrer also came out on top with an 8-6 win at No. 2, and McShane and Wynne cruised past their opponents 8-1 on the No. 3 court.
The Cougars are back in action at Grace College on Saturday, Sept. 6 beginning at 11 a.m.
