Cougars Edge Huntington in Quarterfinal Matchup

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team pulled out a thrilling 5-4 win over Huntington University in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The 3rd-seeded Cougars grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles with the No. 2 and No. 3 pairs earning convincing victories. Hope Roelofs and Katie Storrer won 8-2 while Mary-Kate McShane and Monika Wynne shutout their opponents prevailing 8-0.

Huntington (6-7, 3-5 Crossroads League), who entered the match as the No. 6 seed, quickly pulled ahead, though, in singles play. However, SAU answered with a point at No. 5 singles with McShane's 6-1, 6-2 victory to get within one.

With the deciding point coming down to the No. 1 singles court, junior Quincy Banini took the first set and rallied back from an early deficit in the second to claim the match 6-3, 6-4 and secure the win for the Cougars.

Spring Arbor (8-2, 6-2 Crossroads League) will travel to Indiana Wesleyan University (12-1, 7-1 Crossroads League) on Thursday, Oct. 2 and face the Wildcats for the right to play for the Crossroads League Tournament Championship on Saturday, Oct. 4.
