Men's Basketball Falls at No. 11 Saint Francis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team opened a stretch of three straight games against ranked opponents on Tuesday night, falling at No. 11 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) 91-60 inside the Hutzell Athletic Center.

Junior Greg Hamilton paced the Cougars with 14 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Caleb Hogans followed with 12 points.

The Cougars started the evening strong, jumping out to a quick 7-3 lead. Fort Wayne native Thomas Starks had a hand in putting SAU on top with a pair of free throws before dishing out assists on a Hamilton layup and a Hogans three-pointer.

However, the home team settled in and found its rhythm, using a 23-1 run over the next six minutes – going 8-for-10 from the field – to take a lead it would never surrender.

Saint Francis (15-4, 5-2 Crossroads League), who entered the contest as the fifth-best shooting team in the nation (0.509), scorched the nets, hitting 54 percent (32-for-59) of its shots, including 10 three-pointers, while limiting SAU to 36 percent (20-for-55). Saint Francis also held a slight edge in rebounding, 36-33.

Collin Hewitt and Jimmy Kodet finished the night with eight points apiece and Zach Medendorp followed with six.

Up next, Spring Arbor (10-9, 1-6 Crossroads League) will host No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan University (18-1, 6-1 Crossroads League) on Saturday, Jan. 17 before welcoming No. 19 Marian University (12-7, 3-4 Crossroads League) on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
