HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team fell in back-to-back matches for the first time this season after dropping a 5-2 decision to Ashford University on Thursday morning.
Ashford (8-3), who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to grab the early advantage over SAU. Sophomore Mary-Kate McShane and freshman Monika Wynne pulled out a tough 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles to earn one point for the Cougars.
In singles competition, junior Quincy Banini captured a 6-4, 7-6 straight set win at the No. 1 position, defeating AU's Ursula Alvarado – the ninth-ranked player in the region and No. 40 in the nation. However, the Saints would clinch the match with victories No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Spring Arbor (11-5) will wrap up its spring trip with a match against Dickinson College on Friday, Mar. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
