MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team fell to Indiana Wesleyan University 7-0 in the NCCAA Regional Championship match on Thursday. The Wildcats will represent the Midwest region at the NCCAA National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama on May 5-8.
Indiana Wesleyan (17-6) and Spring Arbor entered the match ranked No. 5 and No.6, respectively, in the NCCAA Top 10, but IWU proved to be too much for the Cougars. The Wildcats began the afternoon with a sweep in doubles play. Junior Quincy Banini and senior Erin Hossack tested IWU's top doubles pair, but would ultimately fall 8-4. The team of Mary-Kate McShane and Monika Wynne also saw their seven match winning streak come to end in an 8-3 loss at No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Indiana Wesleyan would clinch the match and the regional title with four straight-set wins. Banini battled hard against one of the nation's top players at No. 1 singles, but IWU's Katie Wilson held on 6-4, 6-4.
Spring Arbor (13-6) returns to action against the NAIA's No. 15 ranked team Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday, Apr. 14 at 4 p.m.
