INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 21 ranked Spring Arbor University men's basketball team went back and forth all afternoon with Marian University and found a way to prevail late. In a contest that saw the score tied at half and three lead changes in the final minute of play, the Cougars came out on top for a hard-fought road victory, 73-72.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marian came out hot, jumping to a 10-2 lead early. The Cougars responded well cutting the lead to three as they went on an 11-6 run of their own, led by Paul Marandet's quick four and a Luke Barber triple.
- Marian would push the lead back to double digits as Wes Stower proved to be a matchup nightmare for the Cougars, scoring six unanswered himself.
- Facing a double-digit deficit the visitors responded again. Freshman Ben Geschke knocked down back-to-back triples followed by five late first half points from senior Tommy Hamilton saw the Cougars knot it up at the break 38-38.
- Spring Arbor found its first lead of the game early in the second half as Drew Zuidema drilled a three on the opening possession. The teams went back and forth for the next 10 minutes of play as they saw four ties and two lead changes.
- The Cougars found themselves down three with 3:00 to play when they turned to sophomore sensation Paul Marandet, who drilled a three, knocked down two free throws and then finished a tough bucket to keep the Cougars tied.
- Spring Arbor took the lead on a Jeff Beckman putback with 0:39 to play. A Marian triple on the next possession put the home team up one with 26 seconds left on the clock.
- Down one on their last possession, the Cougars found Tommy Hamilton, whose dribble-drive jumper tickled the twine and the visitors escaped with their first league win of the young season, 73-72.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- SAU was paced by Marandet, who ended the night with 18 points and five assists.
- Beckman continues to play well as he added 15 to the scoring column.
- The Cougars shot 52 percent (27-for-52) on the night and 39 percent (7-for-18) from deep.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
- Stowers led the Knights with 16 points, six assists and six rebounds.
- Mark Albers also added 16 points for Marian.
- Marian only found its way to the charity stripe one time all night, making their only try.

Spring Arbor returns home Wednesday night to host Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the SAU Fieldhouse.
