ALBION, Mich. – Senior Zach Medendorp dropped 24 points to lead the Spring Arbor University men's basketball team to a 71-56 win over Albion College on Saturday.
The victory was the first for the Cougars over the Britons since 2012, snapping a four-game skid against their local rival.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the score tied 12-12 midway through the first half, Spring Arbor would score eight unanswered points behind four from junior Tommy Hamilton and would never trail again.
- A three-pointer in the final minute of the half by Ben Geschke helped give SAU a double-digit lead at halftime, 33-23.
- The Cougars came out strong in the second half as Medendorp scored the first seven points of the period, extending the lead to 17, 40-23.
- Albion had no answer for Medendorp in the second half as the 6-foot-8 forward scored 18 of his 24 points going 7-for-10 from the field over the final 20 minutes, including a three-pointer that put the Cougars up 18 at the 10:51 mark.
- The Britons would get within 10, 63-53, with three minutes to play, four consecutive points from Medendorp helped put the game out of reach.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Medendorp scored at least 20 points for the second straight contest, finishing with 24 on 10-of-16 shooting with five rebounds.
- Brandon Durnell and Paul Marandet also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Marandet added five assists while Geschke dished out a season-high six. Jeff Beckman hauled in a team-high nine rebounds.
- Spring Arbor connected on 44 percent (24-for-54) of its field goal attempts and shot 50 percent (9-for-18) from three-point range.
- The Cougars won the turnover battle, forcing Albion into 12 giveaways while committing only five themselves.
FOR THE BRITONS
- Nathaniel Collins and Jaylin Fordham paced Albion with 11 and 10 points.
- The Britons were limited to 35 percent (21-for-60) shooting and just 5-for-20 from behind the arc.
- Albion held the edge in rebounding bringing down 42 compared to SAU's 31.
