SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – On the second and final day of the Cougar Classic, the No. 2 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team walked away with its second win of the weekend following a 2-0 victory over Lawrence Tech Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After recording a hat trick in Friday night's match, Bethany Balcer picked up right where she left off, scoring in the 11th minute to put the Cougars on top early. Aubrey Schierbeek slipped a pass through to Balcer who blasted a shot from the top of the 18-yard box past the diving goalkeeper.
- Lawrence Tech created a chance moments later but a tremendous diving save from Ashley Timmons kept the Blue Devils off the scoreboard.
- Spring Arbor added to its lead in the 24th minute. A cross from Schierbeek into the box connected with Kaley Buck and she finished for her first goal of the season.
- The Cougars finished the match with 32 shots compared to two by the Blue Devils.
- Timmons posted two saves to earn the shutout.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Tonight's match was the first-ever meeting between the two sides.
- Balcer's goal was her seventh of the season, which currently leads the Crossroads League. Schierbeek is also tied for the league lead in assists with four.
- The clean sheet was the 14th of Timmons' career.
FOR LAWRENCE TECH
- Tia Lamie and Allexus Barnes recorded one shot each for the Blue Devils.
- Lawrence Tech goalkeeper Megan Dixon finished the night with 14 saves.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will welcome No. 1 University of Northwestern Ohio (4-0-0) to the Cougar Soccer Complex on Wednesday, Sept. 6 in a rematch of the 2016 national championship game. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
