HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Jeff Beckman and Brandon Durnell each posted a double-double and Tommy Hamilton scored a game-high 19 points as No. 14 ranked Spring Arbor University defeated Huntington University 89-81 in a Crossroads League contest on Saturday.
Huntington's Konner Platt made a pair of free throws to get HU within three, 75-72, with 3:10 remaining in the game, but Drew Zuidema scored four points as part of a quick 6-0 run and Spring Arbor seal the game at the free throw line down the stretch.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor and Huntington traded the lead 10 times throughout the first half and neither team led by more than five.
- In the second half, the two sides continued to go back and forth, trading punches seeing the lead change hands eight more times in the first 10 minutes of the period.
- At the 9:08 mark, a Durnell layup put the Cougars in front and SAU would not trail again. Moments later three-pointers from Ben Geschke and Hamilton expanded the lead.
- After trailing by as much eight, HU narrowed the deficit to three with 3:10 left following a pair of Platt free throws. Spring Arbor answered with six straight points and would go 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final minutes to clinch a key league win.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Durnell registered his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Beckman notched his sixth of the season with 12 points and 11 boards.
- Hamilton scored 19 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 mark from the free throw line. Zach Medendorp poured in 17 points and blocked four shots.
- Zuidema dished out a season-best seven assists to go along with 12 points. AJ Crawford also chipped in a season-high 10 points and three assists.
- Spring Arbor connected on 57 percent (34-for-60) of its shots, including going 8-for-16 from behind the arc. The Cougars were also a perfect 13-for-13 on free throw attempts.
- SAU dominated the glass, out-rebounding HU 36-20. The Cougars also outscored the Foresters in the paint 46-32.
FOR THE FORESTERS
- Platt scored a team-best 24 points going 9-for-12 from the field.
- Huntington finished the day shooting 53 percent (31-for-59) from the floor.

Spring Arbor visits Mount Vernon Nazarene University (14-10, 6-6 CL) on Tuesday, Jan. 30 before returning home to host Marian University (16-8, 6-6 CL) for the Hall of Fame game on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. At halftime of the game against the Knights, SAU will recognize its 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame induction class.
