Streak moves to seven following win over Huntington

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 16 ranked Spring Arbor University men's basketball team picked up its seventh straight victory on Saturday with a 78-65 win over Huntington University inside the SAU Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Huntington held a 13-10 lead at the 14:03 mark of the first half, but Spring Arbor went on a 9-2 run, punctuated by a three-pointer from Drew Zuidema, and the Cougars would never trail again.
  • A triple by Ben Geschke late in the first half gave SAU its largest lead of the period, 36-22, before taking a 41-31 advantage in to halftime.
  • The Cougars maintained a comfortable cushion throughout the second half, leading by as many as 21, on their way to their seventh consecutive victory.

 
 

FOR THE COUGARS

  • Paul Marandet, the reigning Crossroads League Player of the Week, scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting. It was the third straight game he has posted at least 20 points. Marandet also added nine assists.
  • Zach Medendorp finished with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks while Jeff Beckman chipped in eight points with a game-high 13 boards. Tommy Hamilton and Zuidema added nine points apiece.
  • Spring Arbor shot 49 percent (32-for-66) from the field, including going 5-for-11 from three-point range.
  • The Cougars out-rebounded Huntington 43-33, and dominated down low, outscoring HU 40-26 in the paint.
  • Spring Arbor committed a season-low four turnovers.

 
 

FOR THE FORESTERS

  • Huntington was led by Tyler Arens, who recorded 16 points. Konner Platt also scored in double figures, finishing with 12.
  • The Foresters shot 48 percent (13-for-27) from the field in the first half, but were limited to just 34 percent (10-for-29) over the final 20 minutes. The visitors also struggled from the free throw line, converting 13-of-24 attempts.
