THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: No. 2 Spring Arbor 2, No. 18 Mobile 0

LOCATION: Orange Beach Sportsplex | Orange Beach, Ala.

RECORDS: Spring Arbor 19-1-1, Mobile 12-8-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor started fast, creating several scoring chances early. The Cougars, the tournament's No. 1-seed, earned two corner kicks in the first two minutes of action with the second resulting in a header from Balcer going just over the crossbar. Moments later, a shot from Kaley Buck beat the Mobile goalkeeper but bounced off the crossbar.
  • Spring Arbor was able to break the deadlock in the 37th minute. After drawing a foul on the left wing outside the 18-yardbox, Balcer blasted the ensuing free kick low, inside the near post to give SAU a 1-0 lead.
  • Balcer added a big insurance goal in the 59th minute. A turnover by the Rams in their own end put the ball at the feet of Lauren Orr, who played a perfect through ball to Balcer and she would bury the shot.
  • Mobile made a late push looking to keep its season alive. The Rams nearly found the back of the net off a corner kick in the closing minutes, but Haley Lord cleared the ball off the goal line to preserve the clean sheet.
  • Spring Arbor outshot Mobile 17-4 and finished with nine corner kicks while the Rams had two.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • The shutout was the 16th of the season for Spring Arbor – the most in the country.
  • With her two goals, Balcer now has 126 career goals, moving her into fifth place all-time in NAIA history.
