Men's Soccer falls to Missouri Valley in NAIA round of 16

IRVINE, Calif. – The Spring Arbor University men's soccer team saw its season come to an end Monday in the second round of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship, falling to Missouri Valley College 2-0.

It was the second appearance in three years in the round of 16 for Spring Arbor, and just the third since 1977. The Cougars ended their season with an impressive 17-5-1 record. The team's 17 victories were the third-most in a single season in program history and the most since 1979.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Monday's contest was a physical, gritty affair with scoring chances at a premium.
  • Spring Arbor nearly grabbed the lead in the 82nd, but Roderic Green's shot off a well-designed set piece went into the side netting.
  • Less than two minutes later, Missouri Valley was able to break through with what proved to be the game-winner. Luka Gluscevic  found Xavier Gladiador in the box, and Gladiador's shot snuck inside the far post. The Vikings would tack on a second goal in the 89th minute to secure the win.
  • Spring Arbor goalkeeper Michael White finished the afternoon with four saves while Green recorded all four of SAU's shots.
