HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Playing in tight games is nothing new to Spring Arbor this season, with nine games decided by eight points or less, as well as three contests decided in overtime. So, the battle-tested Cougars were ready when the upset-minded Lancers came to town on Tuesday night. SAU demonstrated its fight and resilience, making big play after big play in clutch situations to remain unbeaten at home and hold its position at the top of the league standings.
  • The Cougars led by four in the final minute of regulation, but Grace erased the deficit in the last 23 seconds to force overtime.
  • Grace looked to be in control in the first overtime period. The Lancers never trailed and led by five, 85-80, with 45 seconds left on the clock. However, Marandet would rally the Cougars back scoring eight points in the final seconds, including sinking three clutch free throws to send the teams into double OT.
  • SAU started the second overtime on a 8-2 run and went 9-for-10 from the free throw line to hold off the Lancers.

FOR THE COUGARS

  • After being held scoreless in the first half, Marandet erupted for 33 points over the second half and overtime periods. He also added 12 assists to notch his fifth double-double of the season.
  • Jeff Beckman also registered a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Four more Cougars scored in double figures. Brandon Durnell stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, nine boards, six assists and two blocks. Luke Barber had 15 points and Tom Hamilton had 12 points and five assists while Payton DeWildt added 11 points.
  • Spring Arbor shot 49 percent (36-for-73) on the night and went 25-for-33 from the free throw line.
  • The Cougars finished with a season-low four turnovers.

FOR THE LANCERS

  • Grace was led by Logan Godfrey, who finished with 36 points and 15 rebounds. Haden Deaton followed with 24 points.
