INDIANPOLIS – The No. 5 ranked Spring Arbor University men's basketball team went on the road and picked up a huge Crossroads League victory on Tuesday night, rallying from a 15-point deficit to defeat No. 16 Marian University 82-73.
The win not only extended the Cougars' win streak to eight, but also helped them maintain their position at the top of the league standings.
Spring Arbor has owned the series as of late, winning six of the last seven meetings with Marian, including the last three games in Indianapolis.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marian, looking to avenge an 89-86 overtime loss at Spring Arbor earlier this season, stormed out of the gates, opening an 11-2 lead five minutes into the contest.
- Midway through the first half, the Knights stretch the lead to 15, 25-10 – their largest lead of the evening.
- Spring Arbor still trailed by double digits late in the opening stanza, but a pair of clutch three-pointers from Luke Barber sparked a surge from the Cougars. Over the final 2:01 of the period, SAU went on a 9-2 run to trim the deficit to five, 40-35, heading into halftime.
- The Cougars continued to claw their way back, and, at the 8:45 mark of the second half, Barber drained another triple to give SAU its first lead of the night, 56-55.
- Over the next 5:27, the Spring Arbor defense held one of the nation's top scoring teams to just one field goal (1-for-8 from the field). On the other end, the SAU offense erupted making eight of its last nine field goal attempts to break the game wide open.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Paul Marandet scored a team-high 19 points, including 12 in the second half. The league's reigning Player of the Week also added 10 assists to record his sixth double-double of the season.
- Barber finished with 16 points and was red-hot from behind the three-point line, knocking down four of five attempts. Jeff Beckman also registered 16 points while also adding nine rebounds, five assists and a career-high four blocks. Brandon Durnell chipped in 14 points and six boards.
- Spring Arbor shot 56 percent (28-for-50) on the night, including a sizzling 68 percent (15-for-22) in the second half.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
- Marian, which averages 91 points per game, was held to one of its lowest scoring totals of the season.
- Reggie Kissoonlal had a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Knights. Cameron Wolter finished with 18 points and Wes Stowers had 15.
- The Knights, who rank fifth in the country in field goal percentage, were limited to 38 percent (27-for-70) shooting, including a 5-for-17 mark from long range.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor returns home to host Taylor University (11-14, 5-8 CL) on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. The Cougars will look to even the score with the Trojans after suffering their only league loss of the season in Upland, Indiana earlier this season.
