Men's Soccer suffers 1-0 loss to Huntington in CL Tournament Championship

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's soccer team fell to Huntington University 1-0 in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship on Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

The second-seeded Foresters managed just one shot all afternoon, but that was all they needed, scoring what proved to be the game-winner in the 24th minute to knock off the top-seeded Cougars in the championship match for the second straight year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Huntington scored in the 24th minute. After drawing a foul, the Foresters had a free kick from 45 yards out that was delivered into the box. The ball was deflected as Christopher Banfi went up to grab it and landed at the feet of Luke Unger, whose shot snuck through.
  • Spring Arbor searched for the equalizer in the second half, outshooting the visitors 7-0 in the period, but was unable to find the back of the net.
  • The Cougars finished the match with a 12-1 shot advantage and earned six corner kicks to HU's one.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will wait for an at-large bid into the 2019 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. The national tournament bracket reveal is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. ET on the NAIA's Facebook page.

The NAIA National Championship Opening Round is set for Nov. 22-23.
