HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It had been 20 days since the last time Spring Arbor played a game, but the Cougars were back on the field Friday afternoon fighting to keep their season alive. Despite the long layoff, SAU came out strong and controlled possession early, posting four shots and earning two corner kicks in the first 14 minutes.
  • Indiana East, making its first-ever appearance in the national tournament, capitalized on one of the only opportunities it created on the day, getting a goal from Jordan Prim in the 17th minute.
  • That was how the score stayed until midway through the second half, but the momentum shifted when Buck found the back of the net in the 63rd minute. The senior from Paw Paw, Michigan delivered a shot from 25 yards out on the right sideline that went over the arms of the outstretched goalkeeper to even the match.
  • Five minutes later, Buck struck again. Madison Marshall delivered a cross through the box to Buck, who ripped a shot into the top corner.
  • Spring Arbor outshot Indiana East 20-3 on the day, including 13-0 in the second half.
