ANN ARBOR, Mich. – For the second time in a row, the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team had a game come down to the last few seconds. After hitting a game-tying shot in the final minute to force overtime against Holy Cross on Saturday, the Cougars were on the other end Wednesday evening falling to Concordia University 57-55 as the Cardinals made the go-ahead basket with seven seconds remaining.

Anne Marie Wright was one of three SAU players to score in double figures, posting a game-high 25 points while hitting four three-pointers and dishing out five assists. Grace Shoobridge recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor led throughout the first quarter and most of the second on the way to holding a slight 28-27 advantage at halftime.
  • The score stayed close during the third quarter with the lead changing hands six times and no team leading by more than three points. The Cardinals jumped in front by one with a minute to go in the period, but a three-pointer by Shoobridge in the closing seconds helped give SAU a 41-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The home team got off to a fast start in the fourth, using a quick 7-0 run to pull ahead. The Cardinals led by as many seven, 52-45, in the period, but the Cougars would make a run of their own to get back in the game. SAU made three consecutive shots, capped by a triple from Gracie Cabana, to tie the score, 52-52, at the 3:28 mark.
  • With the score tied 55-55 and only 15 seconds remaining in regulation, Spring Arbor had possession and was looking for a go-ahead basket. However, the Cardinals forced a turnover and scored what proved to be the game-winning bucket on a fast break. The Cougars had one final opportunity to tie the score, but the shot attempt came up empty.
