Women's Basketball falls to No. 8 Taylor in CL Tournament Quarterfinals

UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team had its season come to a close after falling to No. 8 ranked Taylor University 80-55 in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Taylor, fresh off claiming of share of its first regular season league title since 1996, entered the contest as one of the hottest teams in the country with a 17-game winning streak.
  • The top-seeded Trojans, who rank fourth in the NAIA in 3-point shooting, made 15 triples on the night, including five in the fourth quarter, on the way to defeating the Cougars in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals.
  • Spring Arbor trailed 39-26 at halftime, but continued to battle its way back throughout the third quarter. Anne Marie Wright went a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the 3-point line in the third quarter while Rachel Nelson added seven more points in the period.
  • A Gracie Cabana trey early in the fourth quarter closed the gap to 10, 63-53, but that was as close as the Cougars would get. Taylor answered with four consecutive 3-pointers to dash any hopes of a comeback.

 
 

FOR THE COUGARS

  • Nelson led Spring Arbor with 21 points – her fourth 20-point performance in her last five games. She also posted a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Wright added 15 points finishing 5-for-6 from long range. Cabana chipped in six points and Gabby Barnett recorded four assists and three rebounds.
  • Spring Arbor shot 39 percent (22-for-57) on the night and went 10-for-30 from 3-point range. The Cougars went just 1-for-2 from the free throw line.

 
 

FOR THE TROJANS

  • All-American Kendall Bradbury notched a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Becca Buchs followed with 26 points while making six 3-pointers.
  • Taylor made 43 percent (24-for-56) of its field goal attempts and went 15-for-33 from behind the arc. The Trojans also went 17-for-23 from the charity stripe.
