Softball season comes to a close at CL Tournament

INDIANPOLIS – The 2019 Spring Arbor University softball season came to an end at the Crossroads League Tournament. The Cougars suffered a close 1-0 loss to the regular season champions, and No. 2 ranked, Marian University on Thursday, and were eliminated following an 8-2 setback to Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Friday afternoon.

VS. MARIAN

  • Spring Arbor University pitcher Lauren Wirgau limited one of the nation's best teams to just one run over seven innings, but did not get the run support she needed from the offense.
  • Marian's Breena Smith countered Wirgau and held SAU to three hits while striking out 10 batters.
  • The undefeated Knights got the only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning off a solo home run.
  • Cora Millay, Kyla Semones and Hope Longenbarger each recorded a hit for the Cougars.

 
 

VS. MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE

  • Mount Vernon Nazarene scored six runs in the top of the first inning.
  • Spring Arbor answered with two in the home half of the first on a two-RBI double by Jade Nowe. However, those would be the only runs for the Cougars in the game.
  • Nowe finished the game going 2-for-3. Chloe Gignac and Semones had one hit apiece while also scoring one run each.
