HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor was in control in the opening minutes, creating several chances on goal but was unable to capitalize.
  • Olivet Nazarene weathered the early storm, and made the most of its opportunities as the Tigers scored three goals on four shots in the first half.
  • Despite facing a three-goal deficit, the Cougars never gave up. Just over six minutes into the second half, senior Jacob Crull found the back of the net to give the home team hope. Then, six minutes later, a strike from Cole Russell got SAU within one.
  • Spring Arbor kept the pressure on the rest of the second half, searching desperately for an equalizer. In the closing seconds, Parker Bendert delivered a perfect corner kick that found the head of D'Ascenzo in the crowded box and he would bury it with one second left on the clock, sending the Cougar Soccer Complex into pandemonium.
  • Neither team was able to score in the two 10-minute overtime periods.
  • Spring Arbor held a 14-9 shot advantage on the night, and earned seven corner kicks to ONU's one.
