Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Behind a three-goal performance by junior Cole Russell, the No. 10 ranked Spring Arbor University men's soccer team defeated Cornerstone University 5-0 Tuesday night at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Russell and the Cougars got the scoring started in the ninth minute. Russell intercepted a pass in the attacking third and beat one defender before slipping a shot past the Cornerstone goalkeeper. The Brighton, Michigan native would find the back of the net again just over three minutes later, and Spring Arbor would take that 2-0 lead into halftime.
- Russell completed the hat trick in the 58th minute.
- The Cougars were not done yet, getting goals from Josh Fines and James Hansen – both off of corner kicks from Michael Procopio – in the 66th and 76th minutes, respectively. The goal by Hansen was the first of his career.
- Spring Arbor outshot Cornerstone 21-7 and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Christopher Banfi stopped all five shots he faced to record the shutout.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It was the sixth straight win for Spring Arbor over Cornerstone dating back to the 2014 season. All six victories have come by way of shutout.
- Russell has scored in three consecutive matches. Tonight was the first multi-goal game of his career and brings his season goal total to five – matching his previous career-high.
- The shutout was the third clean sheet of the season for the Cougars.
