Late run pushes No. 21 Saint Francis past Men's Basketball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team fell to No. 21 University of Saint Francis 82-74 on Saturday afternoon inside the Hutzell Athletic Center.

Spring Arbor led by three, 66-63, with 5:17 to play, but a 14-2 run over the next four minutes put Saint Francis in front, and USF would hang on late for their fourth win in their last five games.

Paul Marandet scored 25 points and Brandon Durnell had 23. Jeff Beckman nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The lead changed hands 14 times during Saturday's contest, and neither team led by more than nine points on the afternoon.
  • Marandet sank a pair of free throws to put Spring Arbor up 66-63 with 5:17 remaining, but Saint Francis answered immediately with an old-fashioned three-point play to even the score.
  • That play sparked a run of eight straight points for the home team that was part of a 14-2 run to give Saint Francis a 77-68 advantage with only 54 seconds left on the clock.
  • SAU closed the gap to five in the closing seconds, but Saint Francis would hold on for their fourth win in their last five games.

 
 

FOR SPRING ARBOR

  • Paul Marandet scored 25 points and Brandon Durnell had 23. Jeff Beckman nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
  • Spring Arbor finished the afternoon with a shooting percentage of 57 percent (28-for-49), but was just 1-for-8 from 3-point range.

  • Saint Francis had three players score in double figures, including Connor Lautzenheiser, who scored a team-high 16 points.
