SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – A pair of first half goals propelled the No. 24 Spring Arbor University to a 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten, and No. 2 ranked, Marian University on Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
The win was the eighth straight for the Cougars, who improved to 8-1-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the Crossroads League. The Knights, who were shut out for the first time this season, saw their 11-match win streak snapped and are now 11-1-0 and 8-1-0 in league play.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
- Marian, last year's national runner-up, entered the contest with an NAIA-best 11 wins and leading the country in scoring. However, Spring Arbor was up to the task, shutting down the high-powered Knights and holding them scoreless for the first time this season.
- Spring Arbor scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 34th minute. Alyvia Thorne was fouled just inside the 18-yard box setting up a penalty kick for the Cougars. Mackenzie Selvius converted on the PK opportunity for her 11th tally of the season.
- Less than three minutes later, the Cougars struck again. Lauren Moellering played a long ball to Lauren Marshall, and Marshall would shake a pair of Knight defenders before slotting a shot past the goalkeeper.
- Spring Arbor's two goals equaled the total number of goals Marian had conceded in 11 matches this season.
- SAU goalkeeper Samantha Tracey recorded her seventh shutout of the campaign – the most in the Crossroads League.
