Cougars win home opener over Grace Christian

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Making its 2020-21 home debut, the Spring Arbor University men's basketball team defeated Grace Christian University 89-83 on Wednesday night.

Brandon Durnell and Denver Cade posted double-doubles to lead the way for the Cougars. Durnell finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Cade recorded career-bests in points and rebounds with 15 and 11.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Grace Christian raced out to a 16-7 advantage in the first five minutes of the game, and held a lead for almost the entire first half.
  • The Tigers were up nine, 41-32, with 3:00 remaining in the opening stanza, but nine unanswered points by the Cougars sent the two teams into the locker room tied 41-41.
  • The lead changed hands nine times during the first 10 minutes of the second half before an 11-0 run – highlighted by eight points by Cade – put SAU in front for good.
  • Every Spring Arbor player that saw the floor reached the scoring column. Durnell led the way with 24 points going 8-for-14 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line. Cade also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Nate Flannery posted career-highs in points and assists with nine and 10, respectively.
  • SAU shot 60 percent from the field, including 50 percent from 3-point range. Grace Christian ended the night shooting 49 percent overall and 27 percent from behind the arc.
