Women’s Basketball drops heartbreaker at the buzzer to Lawrence Tech

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Lawrence Tech ended Spring Arbor University's three-game winning streak on Wednesday night after escaping, 58-56, in a hard-fought game inside the McDonald Athletic Center. After trailing the entire fourth quarter, the Cougars appeared to tie the game at the buzzer, but after official review, the shot was called off not and determined it was not released in time.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both teams started off slowly on the offensive end. After five minutes of play, Lawrence Tech held a 3-2 lead. The Blue Devils outscored the Cougars 15-8 in the first quarter.
  • The Cougars responded nicely in the second quarter, scoring the first two field goals.
  • With just under three minutes to play in the second, Anne Marie Wright knocked down a 3-pointer to give SAU a 20-19 lead.
  • The Blue Devils gained the lead back, but Grace Shoobridge hit the last bucket of the first half by scoring in the paint. Shoobridge finished with 12 first-half points, as the two teams exited the half tied up at 24 points apiece.
  • After shooting one of eight from beyond the arc in the first half, the Blue Devils came out firing in the second half, knocking down three straight 3-pointers to go on a 9-0 run.
  • LTU's Julia Huey knocked down three shots from distance in the third quarter, as the visitors grabbed a 45-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The teams went back-and-forth in the fourth quarter. Gracie Cabana stepped up and knocked down several big shots, and ended up finishing the game with nine points.
  • With 2.8 seconds on the clock, Lawrence Tech held a 58-56 lead. The Cougars inbounded from the baseline and appeared to have tied the score at the buzzer after a basket from Teona Feldpausch. Upon further review, the officials determined Feldpausch did not get the ball off in time, which gave the Blue Devils the victory.
  • Shoobridge finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and four blocks while Feldpausch added 12 points and five boards.
 

UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will travel to Goshen, Indiana to take on Goshen College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Cougars will be back at home to take on Huntington University on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
