Ponstein scores twice to lead Women’s Soccer to Homecoming win

SPRING ARBOR, Mich.Lexi Ponstein found the back of the net twice to lead No. 4 ranked Spring Arbor University to a 4-0 Homecoming win over Taylor University on Saturday.

It was the ninth straight victory, and ninth straight shutout, for the Cougars, who improved to 9-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the Crossroads League.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor extended its winning streak to nine after defeating Taylor on Homecoming Weekend.
  • The Cougars scored two goals in a three-minute span in the first half. Madison Marshall opened the scoring with a marker in the 19th minute, and Ponstein recorded her first of the match in the 22nd minute.
  • Ponstein struck again in the 61st minute. A cross from Ariana Stoltzfus into the box fell to the feet of Ponstein, and the senior slipped a shot past the Taylor goalkeeper to extend the SAU lead.
  • Shelby Marshall capped the scoring in the 75th minute with her second goal of the season.
  • SAU goalkeepers Samantha Tracey and Emily Ponstein combined to make four saves and post the team's ninth shutout of the season – tied for the most in the country.

Spring Arbor hosts the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. The Cougars will be supporting breast cancer awareness and research by wearing special edition pink jerseys for the match.
