KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Spring Arbor University's
Hannah Laurin tossed a complete game shutout to help lead the Cougars to a 1-0 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Thursday night.
Earlier in the day, SAU fell to the University of Northwestern Ohio 5-4. The Cougars scored three runs in the seventh, but the rally came up just short.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Northwestern Ohio scored two unearned runs in the second inning, and maintained that 2-0 lead until the sixth.
- Spring Arbor got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Kaitlynne Allen scored on a base hit by Elena Fajardo. However, the Racers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
- The Cougars continued to fight and pushed three runs across in the seventh to get within one, 5-4, and still had runners at second and third base, but UNOH was able to hold on.
- Jade Nowe, Sarah Matlock and Fajardo had two hits apiece to lead the offense.
- Emmalee Hamp pitched all six innings giving up no earned runs and recorded three strikeouts.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Laurin was outstanding in the circle in the night cap. The sophomore pitcher worked seven scoreless innings, holding Calumet St. Joseph to only two hits while striking out a career-high eight batters.
- The Cougars scored the game's only run in the sixth inning. Gabby Nafziger reached base to start the frame and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Matlock. Nafziger came around to score on a Calumet error.
