SAU selected as NAIA Women's Soccer Opening Round host

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Spring Arbor University has been selected as one of 10 host sites for the 2020 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round, the NAIA national office announced Wednesday.

Each of the 10 opening round sites will feature four teams. Play will begin on Thursday, Apr. 15 with two games and the winners advancing to play on Saturday, Apr. 17, offering teams a day of rest between the first games and the site's final match. The winner of each opening round bracket will advance to the national final site in Foley, Alabama. Final site play is set to begin on Apr. 27.

Selections of each site were made in part by the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Selection Committee. The committee is comprised of head coaches and administrators from around the nation. Selections take into account geography, facilities and host qualification.

Teams, opponents and schedules for the opening round will be announced live on the NAIA Facebook page on Monday, Apr. 12 at noon.

The SAU women's soccer team, currently ranked No. 7 in the Top 25 poll, served as an opening round host every year from 2010-2018. The Cougars are 7-2 all-time in opening round games.
