Softball wraps up regular season at Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team closed out the regular season at Taylor University on Saturday. The Cougars fell 7-2 in game one of the doubleheader and dropped game two 9-1.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Taylor scored three runs in the first two innings to grab an early 3-0 lead.
  • Back-to-back run-scoring doubles by Cora Millay and Hannah Laurin put Spring Arbor on the board in the third inning and cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
  • The Trojans answered, however, with four runs in the bottom of the third and would keep the Cougars off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
  • Millay and Laurin tallied the only hits for SAU in the game. Millay finished 2-for-3 with a run and RBI while Laurin went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Elena Jones and Taylor's Lauren Kanai were in a pitchers' duel through the first four innings of game two.
  • Jones pitched four shutout innings against the Trojans while the SAU offense pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by Sarah Matlock.
  • After being silenced for four innings, the Taylor offense erupted in the fifth, plating nine runs to bring the 8-run rule into effect.
