Cougars post shutout wins over Northwestern, Concordia

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's soccer team picked up a pair of victories over the weekend. The Cougars defeated Northwestern College 5-0 on Friday night and took down Concordia University 1-0 on Saturday.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • No. 3 ranked Spring Arbor welcomed a familiar face back to the Cougar Soccer Complex Friday night – Shannon (Balcer) Andriga, a former Cougar, All-American, and member of the 2015 national champion team. Andriga is in her first season as the head coach of Northwestern.
  • Spring Arbor scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match. Madison Marshall got the Cougars on the board in the eighth minute and freshman Kaylee Beekel netted her first collegiate goal in the 10th minute.
  • SAU added three more goals in the second half, including first career goals by Melanie Srouji and Annika Arsenault.
  • Spring Arbor finished with 25 shots while holding Northwestern to two.

  • For the second straight day, Marshall found the back of the net, scoring the game's only goal in the 83rd minute.
  • Concordia created a couple chances late, but Samantha Tracey made two great saves to preserve the lead and shutout.
  • Spring Arbor held a 21-3 shot advantage on the night.
  • Tracey and Emily Ponstein combined to record the team's third straight shutout.
