Second half goals from Swan, Shefkiu lead Men’s Soccer past Marian

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Second half goals by Owen Swan and Lirim Shefkiu powered the Spring Arbor University men's soccer team to its first Crossroads League victory on Wednesday night as the Cougars defeated Marian University 3-2.

  • Spring Arbor held a 1-0 lead at halftime following a goal by Nico Tallarico in the ninth minute – his first as a Cougar.
  • Owen Swan added to the lead with a goal just over five minutes into the second half.
  • Marian answered in the 57th minute when a header from James Jenkins found the back of the net.
  • A Marian miscue led to another SAU goal in the 83rd minute. Trevor Kacou drew a foul inside the box setting up a penalty kick that Lirim Shefkiu buried to make it a 3-1 game.
  • With less than three minutes remaining, the Knights would be awarded a penalty kick of their own that Jenkins converted, but that was as close as they would get.
  • Christopher Banfi finished the night with three saves.
  • Spring Arbor outshot Marian 12-10.
