Women's Soccer advances to NAIA Second Round

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 4 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team rolled past Madonna University 2-0 in the opening game of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship First Round Thursday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

The Cougars advance to the second round of national tournament where they will meet Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m.

With the win, head coach Jason Crist collected career victory No. 380 - tying him for the most coaching wins in the history of NAIA women's soccer with Brian Harvey, who guided the Oklahoma City women's program for 26 years. Crist, now in his 23rd season at SAU, boasts an incredible record of 380-90-38 (.785).

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ariana Stoltzfus got the scoring started late in the first half, converting a penalty kick opportunity. After getting fouled in the box during the 40th minute, Stoltzfus stepped up and calmly buried a shot from the penalty spot to put Spring Arbor on top, 1-0.
  • In the 50th minute, Mackenzie Selvius, with an assist from Lexi Ponstein, gave the Cougars a commanding 2-0 advantage.
  • Spring Arbor dominated possession throughout the contest and outshot Madonna 14-0.


UP NEXT
The Cougars, the Spring Arbor Bracket's No. 1-seed, will take on No. 2-seed Cumberland in the second round on Saturday, Nov. 19 starting at 3 p.m. from the Cougar Soccer Complex.
 
The winner will advance to the national tournament final site in Orange Beach, Alabama.
