SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team split a doubleheader against the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday.
The Cougars claimed a 5-1 victory in game one behind home runs by
Emmalee Hamp and
Maddy Thrush. Saint Francis avoided the doubleheader sweep by dealing SAU a 9-3 setback in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Saint Francis scored in the second inning to grab a quick 1-0 lead, but a two-run blast by Hamp in the third put SAU in front.
- In the fourth inning, freshman Maddy Thrush hit her first collegiate home run – a three-run shot – to give the Cougars a 5-1 advantage.
- That was plenty of run support for Hamp, who tossed a complete game allowing only one run over seven innings of work while fanning seven batters.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Saint Francis jumped on Spring Arbor early in game two, scoring seven runs over the first three innings, and the visitors never looked back.
- Kelsey Sturgeon went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Three other Cougars recorded a pair of hits, including Jessie Panchaud, Sarah Matlock and Abbie Funk.
