Harding’s grand slam powers Baseball past No. 25 Taylor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – A Peyton Harding grand slam helped power the Spring Arbor University baseball team past Taylor University 15-7 in game one of Monday's doubleheader at Hank Burbridge Field.
 
Harding's blast capped an eight-run third inning for the Cougars, who earned their second win in the series over the No. 25 ranked Trojans.
 
Taylor fought back to win game two of the twinbill, 10-9, to split the four-game set with Spring Arbor.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Spring Arbor responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame on a two-RBI single by Harding.
  • The Cougars held a 3-1 lead entering the third inning where they plated eight runs, including Harding's grand slam, to break the game open.
  • Harding went 3-for-5 with six RBI while Brandon Haynes also collected three hits. Four other Cougars finished with two hits, including Braedon Leathed, who finished with two RBI's and a run scored.
  • Cade Kontny earned the win on the mound. Kontny pitched 5.0 strong innings allowing three runs and striking out three batters. Aaron Spry picked up the save tossing 3.2 innings of relief.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor scored five runs in the third inning – highlighted by a two-RBI single from Evan Lorey – to grab a 5-0 lead.
  • The Trojans battled their way back, scoring 10 runs over the next four innings, and held a 10-7 lead entering the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Cougars rallied in their final at-bat, plating two runs to trim the deficit to one, but were Taylor was able to record the final out with the tying run left stranded on the bases.
  • Brennan Moran was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored. Lorey picked up two hits and two RBI's while Mast had home run, two RBI's and two runs scored.
