Lorey’s walk-off grand slam caps Senior Day sweep

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Down two in the seventh with bases loaded, Evan Lorey stepped to the plate and hit a walk-off grand slam to cap off Spring Arbor University's Senior Day sweep of Goshen College.
 
Spring Arbor pulled away for a 13-6 victory in game one of Saturday's twinbill before Lorey's heroics secured an 11-9 win in game two.
 
Prior to the game, head coach Ryan Marken and the Cougars celebrated their seven seniors – Brandon Haynes, Hunter Nielsen, Peyton Harding, Jacob Southworth, Jon Williams, Cade Kontny and Jacob Pavey.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but a two-run bomb by Bryce Richey evened the score. The Cougars were not done in the inning, plating two more runs to grab an 8-6 advantage.
  • A Brant Mast two-run shot in the seventh expanded the margin to four, 10-6.
  • SAU tacked on three more runs in the eighth, highlighted by RBI singles from Williams and Harding.
  • The Cougars pounded out 18 hits in the contest. Lorey led the way going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored. Ben Redfield, Landon Raczkowski and Mast all finished with two hits apiece.
  • Trammell Lindstrom picked up the win on the mound. Lindstrom turned in 4.1 innings of scoreless relief while holding the Maple Leafs to only one hit and striking out four batters.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor led 7-5 entering the seventh inning, but Goshen rallied for four runs to take a 9-7 lead.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Braedon Leathed and Mast drew back-to-back one-out walks. Two batters later, Raczkowski reached base on a catcher's interference, setting the stage for Lorey's heroics. Lorey, who was red-hot at the plate on the day, drove a 1-2 offering from Goshen's closer over the center field wall to lift the Cougars past the Leafs and complete the doubleheader sweep.
  • After going 4-for-4 in game one, Lorey collected three more hits in game two while driving in four and scoring three times.
  • Brennan Moran finished with two hits while Harding recorded three RBI's.
  • Aaron Spry earned the win on the mound.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Crossroads League Tournament is set to begin on Friday, May 6 and run through Tuesday, May 10. All games will be played at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana.
 
The Cougars will be the No. 7 seed in the tournament and will face off against No. 2 seeded Taylor in their first game on Friday at 1 p.m.
