Clutch free throws help Cougars topple Trojans

Newhof hits 2 free throws with 1.9 seconds left to secure win

Box Score Spring Arbor, MI - The Spring Arbor Cougars paired gritty defense and timely free throw shooting to defend their home court and take down the Trojans of Taylor University, 66-64.

The Cougars held possession of the ball with 16 seconds left and the game knotted at 64. Coming out of a timeout, they ran a set piece that ultimately found sophomore Eli White a look from three with less than 5 seconds remaining. Freshman Gabe Newhof found himself in the right place at the right time as he secured White's miss and put up a shot as he was being pulled to the floor, which earned him a foul call. Newhof calmly stepped to the line with 1.9 seconds remaining and sank both freebies, giving the Cougars a two point edge. An intercepted pass by Kevyn Robertson on Taylor's ensuing inbounds play sealed the win for the Cougars.
