‘Bama bound! Cougars return to national tournament final site after defeating Siena Heights

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University will have the opportunity to defend its national title at the final site of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship after defeating Siena Heights University 2-1 in the Second Round on Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
 
Lauren Moellering scored the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute to help send the reigning champs and No. 2 ranked Cougars on to the Round of 16 for the ninth time in 10 seasons.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor found itself in an early hole for the second time in as many games as Siena Heights scored just over eight minutes into the match.
  • However, like they did against Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship game last weekend, the Cougars clawed their way back. Isa Martinez delivered a strike from outside the 18-yard box to level the match just before halftime. Then, in the 70th minute, Moellering finished a cross from Jessie Postma to put SAU on top for good.
  • Spring Arbor finished the match with a 16-10 advantage in shots and earned 10 corner kicks compared to the Saints' one.
  • Blair Currie made three saves on the afternoon to help extend the Cougars' unbeaten streak to 34 games dating back to last season.
 
 
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor returns to Alabama in search of its second straight national title and the program's fourth overall. The Cougars will take on Bethel (TN) (11-3-3) in the tournament's Round of 16 on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
