Martinez’s OT goal sends SAU to CL championship, Crist earns win No. 400

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 2 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team defeated No. 10 Marian University 1-0 in overtime in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday night, securing head coach Jason Crist his 400th career victory.
 
Freshman Isa Martinez scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 95th minute.
 
The win sends Spring Arbor to the conference tournament championship match where the Cougars will look to hoist the trophy for the 11th time in program history.
 
Crist, who became the winningest women's soccer coach in the history of the NAIA last season, becomes the first coach in NAIA women's soccer to reach the 400-win milestone. Over his 24 seasons leading the Cougars, Crist has amassed a record of 400-90-40 (.792) while winning three NAIA national titles.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • After 90 minutes of scoreless action between two of the top teams in the nation, the Cougars were able to find the back of the net early in the first overtime period. Lauren Moellering fed Martinez at the top of the 18-yard box and the freshman was able to beat the Marian goalkeeper to the far post for the game-winner.
  • Spring Arbor finished the match with a 23-4 advantage in shots while also earning eight corners compared to Marian's two.
  • SAU goalkeeper Blair Currie made three saves to give the Cougars their 13th shutout of the season.
 
 
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor, the tournament's No. 1 seed, will host No. 2-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University (15-1-4) in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
