Balanced attack propels Cougars to victory

Box Score Spring Arbor, MI - The Cougars of Spring Arbor defeated the Cougars of St. Francis to avenge an earlier loss and split the season series, winning today by a score of 78-67.
 
Spring Arbor jumped out to an early lead on the back of freshman Gabe Newhof, who rattled off the first nine points of the game for the Cougars. Newhof, who has been a consistent force for the Cougars all season, scored 19 of his game high 29 in the first half. Only three points separated the teams at halftime, with Spring Arbor leading 36-33.
 
The Spring Arbor starting five carried the load for the Cougars all night, with each starter scoring in double figures. After the teams traded leads for the majority of the second half, Spring Arbor went on a run that electrified the arena and put them ahead for good. The game was knotted 48-48 when Spring Arbor turned up their intensity and erupted for a 23-9 run that gave them a 71-59 advantage. From there, they would cruise to the 78-67 victory.
 
A highlight of the run was when Newhof jumped a passing lane for a steal, and took it coast to coast for a layup and the foul. The play injected life into the Cougars, and sparked the ensuing run.

Game Stats:
- Newhof secured another monster double-double, posting a stat line of 29 points and 10 rebounds.
- The balanced Cougar attack saw the rest of the starters score in double figures as well. Junior Austin Braun scored 10, sophomores Eli White and Kevyn Robertson each scored 12, and freshman Travis Grayson scored 13. Robertson also secured a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds.
- Offensive efficiency was the key for the Cougars, as they shot 59% from the field and a blistering 60% from behind the arc.
- Eli White, Austin Braun and Travis Grayson each notched two triples apiece to pace the Cougars.
- Spring Arbor nearly doubled St Francis's rebound total, with an advantage of 43-23 on the glass. They also tripled St Francis's assist total, with an advantage of 15-5 in that department.
