Cougars out-duel St. Francis en route to sweep

SPRING ARBOR, MI. – The Cougar softball team earned another two conference wins in their home opener this past weekend, this time defeating the University of St. Francis twice on Saturday. The sweep gives the Cougars their sixth win in seven games.

In the first game, the Cougars saw production from the top to the bottom of the order. Seven Cougars recorded a hit and four recorded multiple RBIs.

Spring Arbor held a 7-2 advantage when a big fifth inning from st. Francis allowed them to claw back and cut the cougar lead to 7-6. The Cougars responded in a big way, as they put up four additional runs in the final two innings to again extend their lead, this time for good. They won 11-6.

In game two, Spring Arbor played most of the game from behind. The Cougars tied the game on five separate occasions, but never earned the lead until their 8th inning rally.

Down 7-9 heading into the final inning, the Cougars were ready to steal a win. Their first two runs came not off of hits, but rather hit-by-pitches.

Now tied 9-9, MacKenzie Collins stepped to the plate. She would make contact on a ball and Grace Lentz hustled down the basepath to score the winning run, giving the Cougars a dramatic 10-9 victory.
