Marshall continues torrid streak to lead No. 2 SAU past UNOH

Cougars celebrate 2022 national title with ring ceremony

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Senior Lauren Marshall continued her torrid scoring streak, netting two goals to help lead Spring Arbor University past the University of Northwestern Ohio 4-1 on Saturday evening at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
 
In six games this season, Marshall has eight goals and six assists, including five goals and two assists in her last two contests. She currently leads the Crossroads League in goals, assists and points.
 
The No. 2 ranked Cougars are now 6-0-0 on the season while UNOH, who was receiving votes in the national poll, are 3-3-1.
 
Following the match, Spring Arbor recognized last season's NAIA national title team with a ring ceremony. Players, coaches and support staff from the 2022 squad were presented with championship rings and celebrated on the field with family members. The Cougars finished last season with a 19-1-3 record and captured their third national championship in program history.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Spring Arbor grabbed an early lead after Marshall scored in the sixth minute.
  • Marshall struck again in the closing moments of the first half to give SAU at 2-0 advantage at the break.
  • In the 84th minute, Marshall drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick, which Ariana Stoltzfus converted to extend the lead.
  • Just over a minute later, Emma Dennison recorded her first goal of the season to make it a 4-0 game.
  • Northwestern Ohio was able to find the back of the net in the 90th minute to avoid the shutout. The goal was the first goal allowed by SAU this season, breaking a five-match shutout streak and a stretch of 539 scoreless minutes.
  • Spring Arbor had 11 shots while UNOH was limited to six. Blair Currie finished the match with two saves.
