Men's Basketball downs Concordia for 4th straight win

SPRING ARBOR, MI. – After a dominant win over Lawrence Tech on Tuesday, the Spring Arbor Men's Basketball team looked to continue their hot start to the season,  making the 45-minute trip to Ann Arbor for a Friday night matchup with the Cardinals from Concordia. 
 
The first half was all Spring Arbor, as the Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Spring Arbor lead by as much as 18 in the half and settled for a 15 point margin going into the break. Kevyn Robertson was the sparkplug in the half, going 6 of 7 from the floor, with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Freshman David Cundiff also recorded his first career points, sinking a 3 late in the half. 
 
The second half was more evenly matched, but Spring Arbor's halftime lead proved to be too much for the Cardinals to overcome, as the Cougars came home victorious with a 15 point road victory, 71-56. Gabe Newhof and Travis Grayson led the scoring in the stanza, with 12 and 9 points respectively, while Trey Cottingham added 7.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Gabe Newhof continued his dominant start to the season, recording the first double-double of his Junior campaign with 18 points and 14 rebounds, as well as going a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. Through five games, Newhof is averaging a whopping 24.3 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game, as well as shooting an incredible 70 percent from the floor. 
  • Joining Newhof in double-figures were Kevyn Robertson and Travis Grayson, with Robertson recording 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Grayson had 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. 
  • Other contributions for the Cougars came courtesy of Dante Favor and Trey Cottingham. Favor had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Cottingham also had 7 points, to go along with 3 rebounds and an assist. 
  • The leading scorer for Concordia was Jack Olis, who had 16 points on 6 of 16 shooting.
