Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball staves off late Marian comeback for 6th straight win

Indianapolis, IN. – The Spring Arbor Men's Basketball team took to the road once again on Saturday, traveling to Indianapolis, IN to take on Marian in Crossroads League action.

The Cougars came out hot in the first half, trading the lead with the Knights a few times early before a 14-0 run gave them a double-digit lead that they would hold throughout the rest of the half, going into the break up 39-29. The main facilitators of the halftime lead for the Cougars were Kevyn Robertson and Travis Grayson. Robertson had 12 points and 3 rebounds, while Grayson had 13 points on 4-4 shooting. Overall, Spring Arbor shot the lights out in the half, shooting 60.9 percent from the floor, including a stellar 58.3 percent from beyond the arc.

The second half started off just as the first half had for the Cougars, extending their lead up to 22 points with around 13 minutes to go in the half, but Marian wasn't going down quietly. With about five minutes left, and Spring Arbor holding a 15 point lead, the Knights mounted their comeback, with a 16-2 run putting them down by 2, 69-67, with just over a minute to play. A flawless trip to the charity stripe for both Travis Grayson and Keyvn Robertson extended the Cougar lead back to 6 with 40 seconds to go, but Marian was still punching. A made jumper, Cougar turnover, and made three pointer cut the Cougar lead to 1 point with 7 seconds to go, and despite Grayson missing both of his foul shots, Gabe Newhof came up with a clutch rebound and was fouled. Newhof sunk both of his free throws to move the lead back to 3, and after the Cougars purposely fouled to prevent a game tying three, Newhof had another clutch rebound on an intentional miss from Marian on their foul shots to seal the nail-biter, 76-74 for Spring Arbor.
