Cottingham sinks career-high six 3-pointers to fuel Cougars' upset of No. 22 Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind.Trey Cottingham knocked down a career-high six 3-pointers, including the go-ahead three with 10 seconds remaining, to lead the Spring Arbor University men's basketball team to an 89-87 upset victory over No. 22 Bethel University on Wednesday night.
 
Cottingham finished with a career-best 23 points while Gabe Newhof added 24 points and six rebounds.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Bethel held a 45-38 lead at halftime behind 18 first half points from the Crossroads League's leading scorer Drew Lutz.
  • Spring Arbor opened the second half on an 11-4 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Cottingham, to tie the score at 51-51.
  • The two teams went back and forth the rest of the way. At the 6:30 mark, Cottingham connected on another shot from behind the arc to put SAU in front 75-74, and the Cougars would never trail again. The shot sparked a 10-2 run, giving Spring Arbor an 82-76 advantage with 3:51 remaining.
  • Bethel battled back and tied the score in the final minute, but with 10 seconds left on the clock, Cottingham would bury his sixth triple of the evening to put SAU in front 88-85 and the Cougars held on to secure the upset win.
  • Newhof and Cottingham finished with 24 and 23 points, respectively. Travis Grayson added 17 points and seven assists while Kevyn Robertson chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.
