GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- After a rough weekend in Florida, the Spring Arbor University baseball team came into its final non-conference set in Georgetown, Kentucky ready to get back on track before the beginning of the conference slate.
In game one, for the first five innings, that was put on hold, as Cougar ace
Josh Murphy, and the opposing Tiger arm, Chad Baker had a scoreless duel on the bump, with neither offense able to muster any sort of rally. However, in the sixth inning, the Cougar offense finally broke through, as
Aiden Brunin singled to left, scoring
Ben Redfield, and
Braydon Gregory followed up right after, singling to right field scoring, both, Brunin and
Bryce Richey. After a shutdown sixth inning by
Ryan Ruhlman,
Jake Spedoske and
Ben Redfield chipped in two more insurance runs, both collecting RBIs, to stretch the Cougar lead to five. Ruhlman shut down the Tigers once again in the seventh, earning the save, as the Cougars came away with their second victory of the year, 5-0.Â
In game two, the Cougar offense continued their momentum, as a
Braydon Gregory RBI groundout began the scoring in first inning, leading to a five-run second inning, highlighted by a
Ben Redfield RBI single, and a
Bryce Richey three-run home run, giving the Cougars a 6-0 lead through two. Georgetown would get a run back in the third on a passed ball, but the offense continued their onslaught in the fifth and sixth, as
Zach Adams and Gregory both had sac fly RBIs, and Richey and
Jake Zeeb drove in runs with a double and single, respectively, to balloon the lead to 10-1. Georgetown got one more run in the seventh, but an
Aiden Brunin run on a passed ball, and another Gregory sac fly in the eighth and ninth would extend the lead further to 12-2, and give us our final, improving the Cougars record to 3-5 on the young season.Â
