Baseball drops two one-run games against Marian

INDIANAPOLIS – The Spring Arbor University baseball team dropped the first two games of its four-game set against Marian University – both by one run. The Cougars fell 6-5 in the opener before coming up just short, 15-14, in a slugfest in the second contest.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • With the score tied 2-2 in the fourth inning, Aiden Brunin put Spring Arbor in front with an RBI double. An inning later, the Cougars pushed two more runs across to grab a 5-2 lead.
  • Marian responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh to pull ahead 6-5.
  • Brunin finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Braydon Gregory and Ben Redfield also collected two hits apiece.
  • Kyler Hinken got the start on the mound and pitched six innings giving up five runs on five hits while striking out seven. Ryan Ruhlman was hit with the loss after giving up one run in two innings of relief.
 
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The fifth inning proved to be the difference in game two of the afternoon. After Spring Arbor scored two runs in the top half of the frame to grab the lead, Marian responded immediately, capitalizing on a pair of SAU errors to score nine runs and take control of the game.
  • The Cougars rallied back, scoring seven unanswered runs, but would come up one run short and leave the bases loaded to end the game.
  • Spring Arbor scored in every inning and pounded out 11 hits. Bryce Richey and Ryan Gonzalez had three hits apiece while Gregory collected two hits and three RBIs.
