SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team split a doubleheader with Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Monday at the Cougar Softball Field.
Spring Arbor used a six-run fifth inning to grab a 7-2 victory in game one before falling to MVNU 4-0 in the nightcap.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Mount Vernon Nazarene capitalized for two runs on an SAU error in the second inning.
- Spring Arbor got one run back in the home half of the second after an RBI single by Brooke Meeker.
- In the sixth, Meeker blasted a solo home run to ignite a six run outburst by the Cougars. Grace Lentz added a two-RBI hit while Summer Ambler and Maddy Thrush also delivered RBIs.
- Meeker finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs while Lentz also drove in a pair.
- Emmalee Hamp was lights out in the circle. The senior pitcher tossed her 12th complete game of the season and scattered five hits over seven innings of work.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor was unable to get the offense going in game two of the doubleheader. The Cougars were limited to just two hits in the contest – both coming off the bat of Hamp.
- Mount Vernon Nazarene led 1-0 through four innings before adding a single run in each of the next three frames.
- Elena Jones surrendered just two earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Tammy Craven allowed one unearned run in 1.1 innings of relief.
