Magalhaes’ brace lifts Cougars past No. 23 Marian

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Behind two goals from senior forward David Magalhaes, the Spring Arbor University men's soccer team defeated No. 23 Marian University 2–1 on Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
 
The victory was the Cougars' first win over a nationally ranked opponent, improving to 9-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Crossroads League play.

MATCH SUMMARY
  • After a brief weather delay just ten minutes into the match, the Cougars found their rhythm late in the first half.
  • A Marian handball inside the box in the 41st minute led to a SAU penalty kick. David Magalhaes converted from the spot, calmly slotting home his seventh goal of the year to send the Cougars into halftime up 1-0.
  • The momentum carried into the second half as Guilherme Micaelo set up Magalhaes again in the 58th minute, with the forward finishing from the top of the 18-yard box for his second of the day.
  • Marian cut the deficit in the 77th minute, but the Spring Arbor back line and goalkeeper Tommy Farrell stood firm over the final stretch.
  • Farrell and Jack Cristini combined for four saves, helping secure a key league victory in front of the home crowd.
