Cougars drop first game of season at No. 4 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season Saturday, falling 68–48 on the road to No. 4 Marian University.

Spring Arbor drops to 6–1 overall and 1–1 in Crossroads League play while unbeaten Marian improves to 7–0 with a 2-0 mark in the conference.

The Cougars hung tough early, trailing just 25–23 after the opening quarter, but the Knights began to create separation as the game wore on. Marian outscored SAU 13–7 in the second quarter to build an eight-point halftime lead, and then used a 21–8 third quarter to take full control.

Megan Zeitz turned in a strong performance with a game-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Alayna Kulesza and Madison Sonsini added seven points each, but the Cougars struggled to find rhythm offensively, shooting a season-low 25 percent from the field.

Spring Arbor visits Indiana University Northwest (1-6) in Gary, Indiana on Saturday, Nov. 29.
